5.0 out of 5 stars - Keep the Faith Tom!

The godfather of rock to some, the voice of rock to all. Tom Russell has been on the airwaves since I was a teenager. A comforting haven of rock on a Friday night when there was no where else to hear or see it. He was 'one of us' - a fan of rock music. Tom always came across as a genuine guy. I remember seeing him at Kelvingrove and the Venue in Glasgow all those years ago. I never got talking to him other than the odd nod and 'how you doin' at a gig or in a pub but his genuine honest character and love of rock music shines brightly in his book. A great read highly recommended. Let's hope things go well and we have Tom on the wireless for many years to come! (For the younger readers that's the radio!!)
5.0 out of 5 stars - Rock on

When I was growing up, Friday night was rock night. 10pm till Midnight was Tommy Vance on Radio1, Midnight till 2am was Tom Russell on Radio Clyde. I've got fond memories of him on my old radio.
While this is an autiobiography, it's more and less than that. It's sort of in date order, more at the start than later, where it does tend to jump about a bit, but more than that, it's a series of anecdotes. It's like sitting in a pub, listening to him telling stories from his long career being involved in rock music.
He's that rare beast in music, especially rock music, in that he retains the enthusiasm for new bands, while keeping his love of the old stuff. I'll admit as I get older, I'm getting less interested in new bands, yet somehow to him, it doesn't matter if it's old or new, it just has to be good. You get the feeling it doesn't matter to him what else life throws at him, as long as he has music, he will be happy, and he feels blessed by what his career has given him.
There can't be many regional disc jockeys who can boast about being on first name terms with Tony Iommi, who have been chucked out a night club with Ian Gillan or got a band so drunk they couldn't play the next night.
This is a wonderful, highly recommended book.
